The Custom Chrome Story
It all started in a motorcycle shop, behind a two-car garage on West San Carlos Street in San Jose, California. Four friends noticed that a growing number of motorcycle owners wanted to personalize their bikes by customizing them. To meet the needs of these customers, the four opened a motorcycle accessory store, Coast Cycles, in a retail space adjacent to the garage. It soon became apparent that few quality off-the-shelf products were available.

First and foremost, thanks.
If you are reading this letter, you are looking at an S&S catalogs and that means a lot to me. My father started this company almost 51 years ago with one simple goal in mind, make motorcycles go faster, today at S&S we follow the same mantra.
This up coming year is going to be a tough one in the American economy‚ probably one of the toughest since the Great Depression‚ and we all need to be smart about our spending. S&S still focuses on building high quality products that provide the most performance possible without sacrificing the reliability you count on from us.
The economy has affected S&S as well; we sadly had to scale our operation down to match the demands of the industry. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever done as part of the S&S family. Another occasion this year was very difficult for me, the resignation of my son, Brett Smith from his role as president of the company. In his six years at S&S Brett added some of the best policies and procedures the company has ever seen. He set the company back on a track to better serve our dealers, got our Training and Certification program up and running and steered the company through the 50th Anniversary celebration. The strains of running an international business and having four young children and a wife that missed him during his constant travel won out and he very wisely decided to step aside.
This is where I come back onto the scene . Back in late 1993, I too resigned from the position of president of S&S. I took up a heavy racing schedule with the Hubba-Hubba Race team and then G2 Motorsports and stayed involved with S&S as the Chairman of the Board. My new role will be Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer until such time comes that we find a new president.

On the vintage front,S&S Cycle® have basically rewritten the book on performance with their Flathead Power‚ by S&S® line. With their SH- Series‚ and P-Series‚ engines they revolutionized the vintage performance market creating engines that had the look and feel of the original packages, but delivering upwards of double the horsepower and torque at the rear wheel.
Reliability and compatibility with late model charging systems, transmissions and primary designs made these engines a huge hit in the custom and replacement market.
But late in 2008 they one-upped themselves with the release of the KN-Series‚ engines.
These beautiful replicas are very close to their original design, but benefit from a few upgrades that the S&S® Product Development Team incorporated.
Quiet, smooth and beautiful, the KN-Series‚ engine is bound to be a hit with the restoration crowd and the custom world.
